The River Thames winds its way through the heart of London and has been the scene of countless major events such as H.M the Queen’s Royal Diamond Jubilee Pageant when 1,000 boats cruised along the river. The wide expanse of water splits the city in half, crossed by numerous bridges. The first underground tunnel under a river was created here in London. It has also witnessed many of the most dramatic events in British history. The Tudor Queens, Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard were rowed up the river to the Tower of London where they were executed.
It is also a river that has featured in many films such as those starring James Bond. He has been portrayed steering a jet-propelled motorboat down the Thames and through the dockland quays, before ending at the O2 Arena in Greenwich.
For much of its length through the centre of London, you can walk right beside the river and enjoy its sights.
