Happy women’s day! Held on March 8 each year, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a day to celebrate the magic of women, to commemorate the countless achievements of women around the world, and gender equality. This year’s ‘Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change’ has many great ways to celebrate; the day holds many talks, debates, events and activities all around the world.
For things to do in London for IWD 2019, check out the following options:
WOW Festival
One of the big ones is the ninth anniversary of the WOW Festival at the Southbank Centre, with political activist Angela Davis. You can also join a live conversation with ‘The Shock Doctrine’ author Naomi Klein. This year there are two major ticketed talks centered around the issues and progress of gender equality over two days. Speakers will cover the current and future state of feminism. Big names include Annie Lennox, Australia’s first female PM Julia Gillard, Maisie Williams, Munroe Bergdorf, Lily Allen, Sandi Toksvig and more.

International Women’s Weekender
Gal-dem magazine celebrates with the International Women’s Weekender – a whole weekend of activities, talk, workshops, drawing sessions and more. Friday 8 sees the opening night with drinks, DJs, and storytelling. Saturday has a morning run and then continues throughout the day with talks of women in sport, literature, and representation of women in the arts hosted by gal-dem editor Micha Frazer-Carroll, featuring Bernadine Evarista, Chelsea Kwakye and Sara Collins.

New Monuments for Women
The Design Museum celebrates with a free discussion about monuments for women and how little there are, the relevance of monuments today and other ways to commemorate inspirational women.
