Throughout the ages, England’s maritime reputation has never been put into question; from the 1500s till today, the UK has been a trend-setter for maritime commerce and trade.
Which is why LISW19 will be the ‘must attend’ event of 2019, offering up to 200 industry functions, and unique networking opportunities for leaders across all sectors of the international shipping industry – regulators, charterers, ship owners, ship managers, bunker suppliers, lawyers, ship brokers, bankers, insurers, insurance brokers, commodity traders and brokers, ship suppliers, port operators, shipping service providers and many more.
LISW highlights London’s key role on the international maritime stage, and the strength and breadth of the UK’s maritime offering. The conference’s industry partnerships with the UK Government, led by the Department for Transport, ensure substantial ministerial and official involvement throughout the week.
The sell-out one-day LISW19 Conference and Gala Dinner, to be held on Thursday, September 12, will attract the very highest-level government, and shipping industry leaders from the UK and around the world to crown what promises to be another amazing week.
Building on LISW19’s central theme “International trade in a changing world” as well as the sub-themes of “Growing”, “Innovating”, and “Partnering”., the LISW19 conference will consider international issues including global economic pressures, protectionism, Brexit, technology, regulations, environmental issues and the potential impact upon the maritime industry.
London is also the predominant supplier of shipbroking services worldwide and is the major player when it comes to maritime dispute resolution.
In a speech delivered at the launch reception for LISW 2019, Nusrat Ghani MP, UK Minister for Maritime, said that the event is ‘the place where the global maritime sector comes together to set the future direction of the industry…and where we showcase our maritime sector to the rest of the world.’
LISW is expected to attract over 20,000 international shipping and maritime decision makers. At LISW 2017, over 160 separate events were held during the course of the week, and the target for the next LISW is over 200 events.
The Minister also added that ‘The 2019 event - which will take place just six months after the UK leaves the European Union - is an especially important opportunity to showcase our shipping industry to the rest of the world.’
Ghani noted that since the Referendum, the government has been very clear that our departure is not about the UK retreating from the world. Instead the great prize for our country is to use our departure to build a truly global Britain.
‘I want London International Shipping Week to be the embodiment of this ambition. Demonstrating that the UK is the place to come together to address the maritime challenges of the future. Showing the world that we are a leading shipping nation and a champion of free trade,’ the minister noted.
LISW19 is organized by Shipping Innovation together with the Department for Transport, British Ports Association, Baltic Exchange, Maritime London, Maritime UK, The Society of Maritime Industries, UK Chamber of Shipping and UK Major Ports Group.

The major event of the week will be the one-day LISW Conference and Gala Dinner to be held on Thursday 12 September. High level Government and industry speakers will give their views and considered opinions on shipping’s future and London’s role in helping shipping emerge from economic crisis.
